In 2015, EXALO Drilling SA won a contract for drilling services and operational support in Pakistan.

For this purpose, the company was searching for the cooperation with an international logistics service provider to transport Drillmec drilling rigs to Pakistan from various locations around the world. The ideal logistics partner would have the ability to ensure proper coordination of the activities and solutions of various parts of the world at the right time and for a difficult trade location. In a tender, EXALO Drilling SA chose a logistics offer of Kuehne+Nagel Poland.

Kuehne+Nagel has designed and implemented global solutions tailored to customer’s needs which were intended to mobilise the drilling rig at one point in the world, i.e. in Pakistan. For this purpose, the company provided a single point of contact to coordinate the project and communicate with designated specialists in particular points of shipping.

The biggest point of shipping was to organise and carry out charters of a ship between Poland and Pakistan which required a high synchronisation of all stakeholders (the port terminal / Kuehne+Nagel, a ship owner, a sender). Important also was a meticulous approach to cargo-related additional activities, i.e. the proper cargo preparation and documentation for clearance, coordination and monitoring of the transport of individual parts of the drilling rig to the port, and preparation of transport permits.

Other activities, such as the organisation, coordination and supervision of trans-shipments in the yard, and between the yard and the ship’s side, completion of the operation documentation, and provision of comprehensive consultancy were equally important in the correct and efficient implementation of the project. And on the top of it was the provision of the full transparency of activities and constant information to the customer.

Due to the use of Kuehne+Nagel as a global logistics operator, EXALO Drilling significantly reduced the costs of the mobilisation of the drilling rig in Pakistan, and thus strengthened its market position.

The implementation of such a logistically demanding project completed on time for such a prestigious customer further raised Kuehne+Nagel’s credibility in the eyes of the customer.

Both EXALO and its customer were fully satisfied with the service and the professional support provided by Kuehne+Nagel.

In turn, it was an interesting and demanding challenge for Kuehne+Nagel that eventually resulted in its wider experience in the field of logistics services for mining industry companies.
