February 2018 - Situation on the European Union overland transport market
We are kindly informing you about the current situation on the overland European Union market as there is the highest capacity shortage since 8 years.
The main reasons that contribute to the current state of affairs are the changes in the European Union regulations concerning the cabotage. These changes have lead to the reduced availability of drivers in the region. Moreover, the positive economic situation in the EU affects in high demand od the overland transport services.
Kuehne + Nagel experts monitor the affairs and they are currently keen on securing the overland transport capacity.
January 2018 - Situation on the United States market
We would like to kindly inform you that the current logistics market situation in the United States is unstable. It is due to the truck power shortage in several areas in the country.
There is a deficiency of truck drivers while at the same time, the enforcement of existing rules, considering such issues as driving hours, is very rigorous. Meanwhile, the US economy is strong what might result in lack of the driver’s profession attractiveness and increases in the service prices.
Below you can see the list of some of the areas where the situation takes place,
Denver, CO; Cincinnati & Columbus, OH; Memphis, TN; Atlanta & Savannah, GA; Charleston, SC; Charlotte, NC and Jacksonville, FL
To address these issues, both the carriers and Kuehne + Nagel in United States have increased their prices.
The carriers are planning to implement additional charges for all areas that face the problem. Moreover, some of them consider to stop arranging the oncarriage.
Due to the shortage of trucking power a lot of containers have to stay longer time in the terminals what is associated with necessity of applying additional charges which are result of demurrage and terminal storage.
The need to pre-pull and organize the overnight stops caused by the trucking not being effected within the same day that cargo arrived in the port lead to increases of service prices offered by Kuehne + Nagel United States.
We would like to assure you that our experts are currently working to secure the maximum efficiency of the service that we provide. Our goal is to deliver to our customers quality and service excellence.
January 2018 - Situation on the global air cargo market
We kindly inform you that 2017 has proven to be a very dynamic year for global Air Cargo.
A number of key trade flows involving North America / Europe and Asia have shown significant double-digit percentage growth, which in certain markets has overwhelmed airports, ground handlers and airline capabilities.
Over the last months Kuehne + Nagel company has taken all activities to keep our valued Clients’ cargo moving to protect their Supply Chains.
While volumes have significantly increased, carriers’ cargo possibilities did not change. Additionally, the Airlines did not announce any plans for meaningful increases in capacity for 2018.
In discussions with a number of our Customers and Airline Partners we have received information which indicates a positive assessment of the market's reliability in 2018. We are working with our Airline Partners to ensure capacity for 2018 based on current 2017 market conditions.
